So many people come up to me saying, "I'm too busy! You don't understand! I have so much going on!" Well, guess what? I genuinely believe they BELIEVE that, but here's the truth: people live by their perception of reality, not reality itself. My question to them is, "Do you really?" Tell me about it.
And that's where awareness hits. They stop and say, "Well, I'm running here and there—constantly moving." To which I reply, "Sounds like you're busy but not necessarily productive." And there's a BIG difference between being busy VS productive, whether personally or professionally.
Busy is just movement—lots of it, but it doesn't always translate into results. On the other hand, productivity is all about outcomes. It's about results. It's about having a clear goal and working toward it with intention. Productivity isn't just a business principle—it also applies to your personal life. Whether it's your health, relationships, or career, you want results, don't you?
So when you say, "I'm too busy," STOP. Take a step back and re-evaluate. Are you truly making progress, or are you just spinning your wheels? Now, let me show you 3 simple ways to shift from being "busy" to being truly productive.
1. Remove the Negative Vocab
Stop saying, 'I'm too busy.' Replace it with, 'I choose what goes into my calendar.' This subtle change gives you your power back. Busy people give their power away—productive people choose. You decide your schedule, not the other way around. Your choices matter, and they determine your productivity. You are in control.
2. Intentionally Schedule
Block off times in your calendar—either on Friday or at the beginning of your week—for your top 2-3 most important tasks (your 'power list'). This means setting aside specific, uninterrupted time for these tasks and not allowing other less important tasks to take precedence. I find that busy people tend not to write things down, which is part of the problem. Plan your priorities intentionally.
3. Use Your Schedule
Review it daily. This keeps you focused and clear on what needs to be done. Busy people tend to overbook themselves and lose track of their priorities. Don't be that person—stick to your plan and adjust as needed.
Here's the kicker: when you start being productive and drop the 'I'm too busy' excuse, LIFE becomes much easier, and you start seeing more results in less time. It's a liberating feeling, isn't it?
Busy people are unfocused, people-pleasing, and overwhelmed. Productive people are focused, clear, and confident. So, how do you make the switch? It's not as complicated as you think—it starts with small, strategic steps like the ones I just mentioned, such as setting specific goals, learning to say no, and delegating tasks effectively.
There are many more strategies, but these are the first ones that will set you up for a productive week + increase your confidence.
The power is in your hands—choose wisely! And remember, these strategies are simple and doable. You don't need a complex plan to be productive; you need a few intentional steps + an accountability partner. It's all within your reach, and you can do it.
